: On Tuesday, Presidential Communications Operations Office Asec. Mocha Uson, wrote a letter and requested Secretary Martin Andanar, her boss to "reclassify" Rappler, an online news site as a social media organization.

As a social media assistant secretary, Uson identified that Rappler as a member of Malacañang Press Corps, (a group of newsmen covering the seat of the Presidency in the Philippines), has no correspondent print or broadcast arm, contrary to other members of the Corps.

In her letter posted on her Facebook page, she requested the online news site to be reclassified and moved to Social Media and should fall below the rules of her administered office to get media accreditation.

This Social Media Organization is also covered by Department Order 15 or the "Interim Social Media Practitioner Accreditation" issued last August.

The purpose of this Order is to provide an interim system of accreditation for social media participation in the coverage of special events attended by the President, in order to generate news and information for the citizenry through social media platforms.

Ms. Uson said in her letter, "I respectfully request that Rappler be reclassified and moved from Malacañang Press Corps to Social Media,".

"This should fall under the rules of accreditation administered by my office," Uson added.
