Mass Walk Out to Hold Today by Militant Students

Fresh News: On February 23, 2018, Friday, Militant students from various schools and universities throughout the nation are arranging a mass walkout and will join together to challenge different issues like charter change, federalism, tax reform law, and military law in Mindanao.


Alongside the universities that will take part in the walkout is University of the Philippines.


It has also been said that in the afternoon, some of the students will likewise march to Mendiola to drop their protest.





Anakbayan, a Filipino youth organization has challenged President Rodrigo Duterte to straightforwardly address the issues nagging his administration.

In fact, Anakbayan Secretary General Einstein Recedes dared the president to confront and face the indignation of the people and answer certain individuals' matter flung at him.





"We dare this delusional dictator to face the wrath of the people and address legitimate people's concern hurled at him," said Recedes.

Meanwhile, Michael Tan, University of the Philippines Diliman Chancellor urged the students of the said university to participate and join the protest "as part of their education."


Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque upon learning the issue of protest said that Malacañang, has no plans to prevent activist students from leaving and walking out of their classes.


However, Spox Roque forewarned them to remember the dangers that might be involved when they join the protest.


He also prompted and cautioned students particularly those from state universities, who will join mass walkouts that they may get kicked out of school and said that it's up to the students' decision if they want to be kicked out and that goes especially for those who benefit from free tuition.

Spox Harry Roque said in a media briefing, "Bahala po sila kung gusto nilang ma-kickout sila. Sayang po yan lalong lalo na yung sa nakikinabang sa libreng tuition."


The spokesperson additionally said that these students who benefits from free tuition fees is also made possible with the help of persevering Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) like Joanna Demafelis, who died and whose body was found in a freezer in Kuwait.


He then ends his message saying that if ever those students will join the protest, it's actually their right and their conscience.


"Karapatan po nila yan, konsensya po nila yan," Spox Harry Roque said.
