Senator Francis Pangilinan, President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV (CTTO)

Fresh News: On Friday, March 16, 2018, Senator Francis 'Kiko" Pangilinan, President of the Liberal Party, marked the case of inciting to sedition held up against Senator Antonio Trillanes IV as 'pure political harassment'.

Pangilinan and Trillanes are both part of the minority bloc in the Senate and to Trillanes defense, Pangilinan in a text message said that the case filed vs Trillanes is nothing but pure political harassment and added that the current administration from the beginning, already demonstrated its prejudice towards disputes and criticisms from the opposition and the individuals who will contradict its policies will be restrained to disagree.

This is pure political harassment,” Pangilinan said.

"From Day 1 this administration has shown its intolerance towards dissent and criticism from the opposition and those who disagree with its policies and this case is part of its efforts to silence and stifle dissent.” the senator exclaimed.

The senator then added that what the administration is doing is hostile to majority rule and a danger to their independence and democratic rights.

It is anti-democratic and a threat to our freedoms and our democratic rights,” Pangilinan added.

Yesterday, it has been said that the Pasay City court has found reasonable justification to accuse Trillanes with inciting to sedition that has been filed by lawyers affiliated with the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC), which originated from a privilege speech he conveyed in October a year ago regarding President Rodrigo Duterte's alleged unexplained wealth.

Trillanes, the most vocal critic of the President, then provoked the military to utilize an M60 machine gun against President Rodrigo Duterte.

Kung makikita ito ng mga sundalo, M-60 ang gagamitin sa’yo kasi marami-rami ito. Mauubos ‘yung magasin, kung P40 million ‘yung hinahanap mo,” the senator then said.

Meanwhile, upon knowing the approval of the case filed against him, Trillanes pledged to confront the case as he kept up that he did not provoked anybody to do anything.

On his statement yesterday, he said that it is clear that this culmination and harassment is just based on his privilege speech on the Senate and apart from having constitutionally guaranteed immunity from suit, he did not encourage anyone to do anything.

“Maliwanag na baluktot at panggigipit itong kasong ito na nakabase sa privilege speech ko sa Senado na bukod na sa merong constitutionally guaranteed immunity from suit, ay wala akong inincite na kung sino to do anything,” Trillanes said.
