PET Postpones Recount in Marcos Poll Protest Against Robredo

: On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, Legal counselors from both Vice President Leni Robredo and former Senator Bongbong Marcos' camp affirmed that the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) has postponed the vice presidential poll's ballot recount.


It has been said that the PET transferred the rescheduling to their camps Tuesday afternoon and as per Vic Rodriguez, lawyer of Bongbong Marcos, the manual ballot recount will continue on April 2 rather than March 19.


Rodriguez said that the delayed of the recount has been unlucky for them and also mentioned that according to PET, just 42 of the 50 revisors have qualified or passed mental examinations for the relate.

The revisors are part of a board of trustees that will look at disputed ballots in Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Negros Oriental to decide the advantage of Marcos' electoral protest.




"Unfortunately for us, yes, postponed again," Rodriguez admitted.


Meanwhile, Beng Sardillo, Robredo's lawyer, said that the PET referred to logistics as the explanation behind the postponement.


Robredo's lawyer additionally said that they believe the PET's decision to postpone the recount would be to their greatest advantage to complete this challenge to subdue any uncertainty about the decision of the Filipinos and the triumph of Vice President Leni Robredo.

"We trust the PET in these proceedings as it is in our best interest to finish this protest to quash any doubt about the choice of the Filipino people and the victory of Vice President Leni Robredo," Atty. Sardillo said.


It can be recalled that former Bongbong Marcos filed the electoral protest against Robredo in June 2016, after he lost to Robredo by 263,473 votes in the 2016 elections. This is among one of the tightest edges in the historical backdrop of the nation's vice presidential elections.


In January of this year, Marcos currently uncovered evidences of assumed poll fraud, indicating square boxes found in some ballot images, to support his claims.

Robredo, nonetheless, has denied accusations of vote padding and shaving.
