On Wednesday, May 2, 2018, former Davao City Vice-Mayor Paolo 'Pulong' Duterte and Attorney Manases Carpio were cleared by the Office of the Ombudsman's special fact-finding team from the controversy encompassing the P6.4-billion shabu shipment that was smuggled into the nation.

In an announcement today, the Ombudsman said its board rejected the protestations filed against Duterte and Carpio for "lack of basis and evidences"

It can be recalled that it was Mark Ruben Taguba II, customs fixer, who labeled Duterte and Carpio after rumors in the BOC that 'Pulong' Duterte was associated with the exchanges of a specific "Davao group".

Although Taguba in a statement before already cleared Duterte and Carpio from any corrupt activities within the customs and has apologized to presidential son and and his brother-in-law Manases Carpio for the “fake news” circulating that the two were involved in the P6.4-billion shipment of illegal drugs that went past the inspection of the Bureau of Customs (BOC), the investigation went on linking the brothers-in-law.

The Ombudsman then started the probe on the smuggled shabu shipment after it assembled a panel of investigators in October 2017.
