'Otso Diretso' candidates honor Duterte's Health Care Law, Support for Military, Cleaning of Boracay

On Sunday, February 24, 2019, amid the second "Harapan 2019: The ABS-CBN Senatorial Town Hall Debate", four opposition senatorial candidates were reported to also value and appreciate some of President Duterte administration's good policies.

“Otso Diretso” opposition candidates who are all staunch critics of the President said that Duterte's support for the military and free health care are actually favorable.

In the “Fast Talk” segment of the debate, supported by Manila Bulletin, the leading network’s media partner, Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano, a former mutineer who is seeking to be a senator, said that the President's "support for the military" was something great that he could state about the President, however, was rushed to caution that it ought not result in“personal loyalty” to the latter.

Likewise, Mar Roxas, the former secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government, who lost the 2016 Presidential race to Duterte, said the medical care program is the best achievement the Duterte administration accomplished, thus, also said that the President deserves praise for funding free health care services to Filipinos, saying that hole is actually an individual need he wanted to be completed by government.

Meanwhile, according to former House deputy speaker Erin Tañada, President Duterte actually accomplished something fair after the latter signed the Republic Act No. 10969 or Free Irrigation Service Act, a landmark law that gives free water system or irrigation to farmers.

Tañada, a longtime Liberal Party valiant, also said that if ever he would have a suggestion to the President, he would proposed to pass the coco levy fund bill for the farmers.

Concurrently, election lawyer Romulo Macalintal correspondingly said that he is in favor of the the Boracay cleanup.
