Former DSWD Employee to 4Ps Bashers: "MAHIYA KAYO SA MGA SARILI NYO!"

"The program may not be perfect, but those who are commenting about the 4Ps beneficiaries being 'privileged' these days, should also check their sense of entitlement. MAHIYA KAYO SA MGA SARILI NYO.", ani Horlador.

Narito ang kabuuan ng kanyang pahayag:

"I am a former employee of DSWD. I joined the agency in 2010 as Training Specialist of Pantawid Pamilya (4Ps) in Region VI. I spent 7 years working with fellow program implementers within the agency as well as with our partner agencies and NGOs... I have been face to face with the beneficiaries and I have listened to their stories.

I cannot forget the experience during our first batch of Parent Leaders Training. The participants came from one of the poorest towns in one of the poorest provinces in the country. Most of them had motion sickness when they arrived because it was their first time to travel that far to a particular place, it was their first time to be in an aircon van, first time in their 30 to 40 years or so of existence to be in Iloilo City. They stood in awe upon arrival because it was their first time to set foot in a hotel, they thought they were in a dream. I remember how many of them couldn't eat the buffet meals we served not because they didn't like the food but because they were overwhelmed by the variety and volume of the food in front of them and because they thought of their families back home eating rice and salt or dried fish in limited portions. I remember how all the food caused them hyperacidity and how they couldn't stand the aircon so, we eventually had to make basic meds as part of our training kit. When we gave them their travel assistance I remember one saying 'this is the first time I received money from the government, I never thought this would ever happen...' Someone held to the 1000 pesos bill saying it was her first time to actually have that big an amount in her hands.

Would you like to trade places with them because they are now the lucky recipients of the taxes you paid this government? They receive less than 4000 a month maximum for the cash grant and will be receiving additional cash from SAP now, but if summed up, the assistance they will receive will not be more than 8000 pesos per month for only two months. How much is your income? How do you spend that? What do you enjoy everyday? Can the max 8000 peso assistance they get be ever enough for the things you get to taste and experience everyday out of your paycheck? You think they are luckier. Would you give up being a middle class and be among them so you can get that cash assistance kay gasakit gid buot mo nga nagkadto ina sa ila?

I would be happy to give a portion of my taxes to the poor and I do not care if they spend it for food or to rebond their hair, or buy clothes or whatever. It's just a small amount in exchange for a taste of heaven for these people who have known nothing but hell all their lives.

Being in a better situation than many of them, shouldn't our attitude be, 'if only we could give more so they no longer have to depend on us."?

We should realize that the cycle of poverty continues not because these people are lazy or dumb but because of lack of opportunities and many other factors. How we wish we could give them opportunities for employment now but given the circumstances, the most immediate help that we can give is for their survival. The little assistance the government gives are but tiny morsels. But for those who have not known how it is to live each day with a full stomach or experience any form comfort all their life these tiny morsels mean another day to live, another waking moment to keep fighting, another chance to survive. Mababaw lang naman ang kanilang kaligayan. Just basic staple to survive. Not a 5-star meal, with all the fancy plating and garnishes. A far-cry from the corrupt who take billions from the taxes you pay and whose appetites are insatiable.

So please spare the needy of your ire. Reserve them for the corrupt people in government and for those who receive salaries but do not perform as expected, because the taxes you pay, they enjoy without true service, and these go to their lavish lifestyles, to their vices and perhaps even to their mistresses.

The program may not be perfect, but those who are commenting about the 4Ps beneficiaries being 'privileged' these days, should also check their sense of entitlement. Many also risk their lives for the program having been assigned to far flung areas, with little or no hazard pay. KAYO TAXES LANG NAIAMBAG NYO PARA KAYONG MGA BATANG INAGAWAN NG TINAPAY... As we Ilonggos would say in our usual ma lambing tone, "ahhh, karoonnn.. ... tampa gusto moo?" #sanaMahimasmasanTayo #justSaying #howCanUBeHappyIfOthersAreNot"
